Wells Fargo credit cards

The most improved card issuer of the decade. The Autograph family turned Wells Fargo from a 2% flat-rate shop into a real transferable-points program, with 1:2 hotel transfers nobody else offers. The roster is still young: partners are fewer than the big three, and the premium tier is invitation-only.

The honest read

Where Wells Fargo wins, and where it loses

Strengths

  • Autograph earns 3x on six everyday categories with no annual fee
  • Choice and Wyndham transfer at 1:2, an outlier ratio worth real money
  • Active Cash remains the benchmark no-fee flat 2% card
  • Partner roster is growing fast: JetBlue added late 2025, Cathay Pacific and Wyndham in April 2026

Weaknesses

  • Eleven transfer partners trails Chase, Amex, Citi and Capital One
  • No broadly available premium travel card: the Premier Autograph is invite-only
  • 48-month lockout per card on welcome bonuses
  • Brand trust still recovering from the 2016 accounts scandal

Wells Fargo application and bonus rules

Some of these rules appear in Wells Fargo's written offer terms. Others are unpublished bank behavior documented by years of community data. We label which is which.

One card per six months

In official terms

Wells Fargo's application fine print bars a new consumer card if you opened another Wells Fargo card in the prior six months. Relationship customers report occasional exceptions.

48-month bonus rule

In official terms

Since August 2024, no intro bonus on a card you opened within the past 48 months. The clock runs from account opening, not bonus payout, and applies per product.

Transfers need an Autograph

In official terms

Active Cash rewards convert into transferable points only when you also hold an Autograph or Autograph Journey. The two-card pairing is the whole strategy: earn flat 2% everywhere, transfer it like a travel card.

The points

How Wells Fargo rewards actually work

Transfer partners

Eleven partners as of April 2026: nine airlines at 1:1 including Flying Blue, Avianca and British Airways, plus Choice and Wyndham at a 1:2 ratio.

Pooling points

Points combine across your Wells Fargo rewards cards, and Active Cash earnings become transferable once an Autograph-family card is in the wallet.

Expiration

No expiration while the account stays open and active.

We currently value Wells Fargo Rewards at 1.75¢ per point (floor 1¢, ceiling 2¢). Check the points valuation calculator for what your balance is worth.

FAQ

Wells Fargo card questions, answered

Are Wells Fargo points worth anything for travel now?
Yes, since 2024. Autograph-family cardholders transfer to nine airlines at 1:1 and to Choice and Wyndham at 1:2. We value the points at about 1.75 cents with good partner use, up from a flat 1 cent before transfers existed.
What is the best Wells Fargo card setup?
Active Cash plus an Autograph card. The Active Cash earns flat 2% on everything, the Autograph earns 3x on travel, dining, gas, transit, streaming and phone plans, and pooling them makes every dollar transferable.
How often can you apply for Wells Fargo cards?
One new card every six months, per the application terms, and no repeat bonus on the same card within 48 months of opening it.
Does Wells Fargo have a premium travel card?
Only by invitation. The Premier Autograph Visa Infinite exists but is not open for public applications, which leaves the $95 Autograph Journey as the lineup's ceiling for most people.
What credit score do Wells Fargo cards require?
Around 670 for the Active Cash and Autograph, with the Autograph Journey skewing 700+. Applicants without an existing Wells Fargo relationship report somewhat conservative starting credit lines.
